After Midnight
Cinema Motion Graphic Design
In this project, we were asked to create a personal visual interpretation of a selected song. Using the video camera and Premiere/After Effects, we shot and edited our interpretation of a song. Our visual content should aim at exploring a consistent visual aesthetic and style. It should also be in keeping with the song's tone, with particular attention given to its structural elements, rhythm, meter, and repetition, as well as its symbolic significance and musical resonance.

Primary Mood and Tone
Lyrics
(Please don't leave me
Sitting here alone
Please don't hurt me
You're the only one I want)
Please don't leave me
Sitting here alone
Please don't hurt me
You're the only one I want
When tomorrow comes
You're not where I want you to be
When tomorrow comes
I guess I have to set you free
Ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh
It's after midnight
I'm off again
Time to say good night
It's after midnight
I'm off again
Time to say good night
Please don't leave me
Sitting here alone
Please don't hurt me
You're the only one I want
When tomorrow comes
You're not where I want you to be
When tomorrow comes
I guess I have to set you free
Ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh
The music conveys a dreamy atmosphere. Based on the song's lyrics, the main character is a woman who misses her love. Through the guitar in the song's background and the flowers and letters received from the lover related to the memory, we would like to convey the music's atmosphere better.
At the beginning of the video, a live flower and a white letter appear. At the end of the video, the flowers dried up, and the letters turned yellow, indicating that the years had passed. Also, when the song plays while wearing a headset, the main character recalls the days she spent with her love. As the screen transitioned, fun was added through a circle on the side of the headset, a circular camera lens, and a circular umbrella.
3. Mood Board
We referred to the filming technique of the movie Atonement (2007) to express the song's atmosphere. The film is shot with stockings on top of the camera, giving it a dreamy feeling. When we shot ours, we also filmed with stockings over the camera.
